Social Cosmos was an interdisciplinary open access peer reviewed journal, written, reviewed and co-published by students of the Von Humboldt College, the honours programme of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Utrecht University. These students participated in the second year course Dare to Compare, coordinated by Jaap Bos. One of the projects in this course consisted in writing, editing and publishing a ‘special issue’ of the journal. Each issue was devoted to a different theme. The journal strived for understanding and analysing a wide variety of issues within the social sciences from the disciplines of psychology, sociology, anthropology and pedagogy.
Social Cosmos existed from 2010 to 2015 and published 8 issues. Although chief editorship rested with Elisabeth Rasch, later with Jette Westerbeek, students were to a high degree responsible for its contents. The first several issues were published in English, later it was decided to switch to Dutch. In 2016 the journal was discontinued and the content was moved to this website, developed by the Honours Magazine Committee.
